Freedom of Speech at Miss USA?

Politically correct or not Miss California Carrie Prejean, spoke her mind Sunday night at the 2009 Miss USA pageant. An answer that might have cost her the crown.
Her response has gained much attention and controversy concerning gay rights.
During the onstage interview portion Miss California was asked her views on gay marriage, she responded:
“We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.”
The onstage interview is about being able to answer a question with a well thought out answer, not your politically stance. I think that the media is taking this to extremes, whether you believe in same sex marriage or not we need to remember that this is still a beauty pageant.
I think there has been a lot of emphasis put on a beauty pageant contestant when we are talking about politics. I don’t think she should be vilified because she choose to not take a popular stance. The berating is unnecessary and a little much.
At the end of the day she is just a young girl trying to stay true to her convictions and win a pageant.
